Wild Child Day Camp: Grades 4-5

What could be more super than spending all day exploring the coolest parts of the Nature Center like the Gravel Pits, Trout Run Stream, and the Source Pond? Meet new friends and awesome counselors while living out your favorite adventures. Practice outdoor skills - try the challenge course, beginner zipline, and archery. Travel back in time to the DeLano Farms & Homestead and the Pioneer Cabin, create natural art, check-out the swimming hole and our giant Slip N Slide!

Wild Child Campout:  Grades 4-5

Being at home in the woods doesn’t happen overnight—it takes a week at camp! Learn to set up a tent and build safe shelters and fires. Explore the best of camp like archery, swimming, fishing, challenge course and beginner zip line during the day, then discover nature at night and practice awareness and self-reliance on an awesome overnight campout. Pack your bags and get ready to let out the Wild Child! 

$260 MEMBER, $285 NON-MEMBER | “WILD CHILD CAMPOUT” RUNS 9 AM–5 PM, MONDAY–FRIDAY. OVERNIGHT CAMPOUT IS THURSDAY NIGHT.  TENTS AND 3 MEALS ARE PROVIDED. TENTS ARE SHARED WITH SAME-GENDER CAMPERS ONLY.

Turn up the adventure to extreme! Challenge yourself with new skills such as archery and prussik climbing. Go on an all day Adventure Race, earning points as well as life skills. See where your strengths compared to those in the animal world and explore your own wild side!

Travel back to the times of ancient seas and mammoths. Unearth history's mysteries in an indigenous village and a pioneer homestead, go on a fossil hunt to the KNC gravel pits and visit Kalamazoo Valley Museum's Dinosaur: Land of Fire and Ice exhibit.

Go behind the scenes at KNC and beyond and learn what it takes to work with wildlife. Take care of KNC’s farm, exhibit and camp animals and meet LIVE Birds of Prey. Work with community animal organizations to learn more about different areas.

Plan your own hike everyday on Nature Center property. Learn to navigate, prepare for trips and practice Leave No Trace principles to fully enjoy nature.  This session includes an overnight campout on Thursday evening.

Adventure awaits you on a fantasy journey in the magical Eastern Woodland realm. Use your Live Action Role Play and Nature skills to help us save the Earth from those who would choose to destroy it!

Take care of animals and use your green thumb, get a taste of life on the farm from ponies to peppers. Get growin’ and practice traditional farm skills.  This session includes an overnight campout on Thursday evening.

Be cool and get wet as we explore the wildlife that calls the waters of Michigan their home. Go fishing, explore the river, study the pond and meet LIVE water creatures.

It's a dirty job and we get to do it! Explore some of nature's best work like insects and fungus, examine bacteria under a microscope and play with soil. It’s time to get hands-on with nature’s weird creatures’ features.  This session includes an overnight campout on Thursday evening.
