Wednesday, March 10, 2010

“Looking back, last summer was
probably the best summer of my
life. I don't think I have ever
learned as much and had as much
fun at the same time. Thank you
for the wonderful opportunity.”

The Nature Up Close Camp Education Staff is our greatest resource in providing campers with a supportive environment where they feel safe exploring the natural world and learning new life and outdoor skills. Camp staff are caring, creative and responsible professionals with a strong environmental ethic who want to make meaningful connections with campers and help them build a relationship with the natural world.

If you would like to know more about becoming a Nature Up Close Summer Educator, please explore the staff pages and then visit the "How to Apply" page.

Jenny Metz - Experiential Education Director
Jenny has worked at KNC since 2005 and hopes to be here until 2050! She attended the very awesome Lawrence High School (Go Tigers!) and then went on to the University of Michigan. Her degree is a BS in Environmental Policy and Behavior from the School of Natural Resources and Environment. Other interesting jobs besides "Camp Director" include, Fish Researcher, Bird Researcher, Fork Lift Driver and College Instructor. Besides smiling at campers, singing camp songs and throwing fake temper tantrums in Family Fest Skits, Jenny enjoys reading, birdwatching, hiking, gardening and chocolate!

Nicole Hubbell - Assistant Director of Camp Programs
Nicole joins us for her third year as Assistant Director. Nicole grew up in Gainesville, Florida, and got her Forest Resources and Conservation degree from the University of Florida. Some of her jobs have included: working as a Forester Intern at a State Forest and working at a Nature Center in Florida; working at Environmental Education Camps in Eatonton and Tybee Island, Georgia; working as a Tidepool Naturalist and at an Environmental Education Camp on the northern coast of Oregon; and working at an Environmental Education Camp and Outdoor Education Center in Michigan. Nicole loves giant sequoia trees, dolphins, movie theater popcorn, hiking through the woods, walking on the beach, sushi, anything vintage, listening to music, cooking, reading, cross-country skiing, watching old movies, and being creative through fun art projects.
